❓ WHOIS Lookup FAQs

What information can I get from a WHOIS lookup?

You can see registrar details, registration and expiration dates, domain status, and associated name servers. When registrars enable privacy protection, contact information may be limited.

Why do I see “DNS derived data” instead of full WHOIS?

Some registries require authenticated access for full WHOIS data. When that happens we fall back to DNS records to confirm whether the domain is active and which name servers it uses.

How often should I check WHOIS information?

Check regularly if you manage domains—especially near expiration—to avoid lapses. Security teams also monitor WHOIS data to detect suspicious registrations or impersonation attempts.
